TO CLEAR THE
BORDER:
1. File a U.S. flight plan to allow
Customs notification at
least 2 hrs. prior
to ETA. Include a request for Customs
notification on
flight plan.
2. Use flight plan form or give the
following information:
· Type of
flight - IFR or VFR
· Type of
aircraft
· Departure
point from Canada
· U.S.
Destination
· Number of
people on board and citizenship
· ETA at
U.S. Border
· Pilot's
last name
· Customs
notification in remarks section.
3. At least 30 minutes advance notice
required by U.S.
Customs for
changes of ETA via radio, fax through FSS, or
a direct call to
U.S. Customs (1-800-98CLEAR).
ALASKA:
1. Be sure to carry current VFR, IFR and
approach charts as
appropriate.
Navigation facilities and radar coverage are
limited in Alaska.
Be prepared to assume responsibility for
your own
navigation. Do not take unnecessary risks.
2. Special Air Traffic Rules apply at
Ketchikan and Anchorage.

PILOT MUST
HAVE:
Pilot license (private or above), current
medical certificate and proof of citizenship.
AIRCRAFT MUST HAVE:
1. Current airworthiness/registration
certicates. Experimental aircraft must validate airworthiness certificate
with Transport Canada prior to entry. Ferry flights must contact Transport
Canada prior to entry.
2. Radio station license and operator's
permit. Two-way radio for flight in controlled airspace. Mode C
transponder for flight in class A, B, C and some class D
airspace.
3. Operating limitations, weight and
balance documentation.
4. Public liability and private aircraft
passengers liability insurance certificate. Owner's written permission for
renters.
TO CLEAR BORDER:
1. File a flight plan to an approved
airport of entry (AOE). Arrive within established Customs service hours to
avoid callout charges.
2. Call 1-888-CANPASS (226-7277) with
estimated time of arrival (ETA) between 1 and 72 hrs. before entering
Canada. Alternate number (604) 363-0343.
3. Notify Customs if ETA changes
significantly. Notify Customs or RMCP if weather or emergency forces a
change in destination.
4. Contact Customs at 1-888-CANPASS
immediately upon arrival.
5. Proof of citizenship required for all
persons on board.
6. Papers required for pets over three
months.
NOTABLE DIFFERENCES:
Visual flight rules (VFR) in controlled
airspace: 3 mi. vis. 500 ft. vertically and 1 mi. horizontally from cloud,
at least 500 ft. AGL in control zones. Class C airspace: clearance
required prior to entry. Class F airspace: CYR - STAY OUT; CYA - proceed
with caution. Canadian VFR over the top rules differ from U.S. VFR on
top.
REFER TO CANADA FLIGHT SUPPLEMENT (CFS)
FOR:
Aerodrome Directory, Mandatory and
Aerdrome Traffic Frequencies (MF/ATF), Customs AOEs, Intercept signals,
and Search and Rescue signals. Refer to Canadian Aviation Regulations
before flight in Canada.
